Receiving your IMSE OG Certification ensures that you are confident in using IMSE’s OG methodology. During the certification process, you will have the invaluable opportunity for personalized feedback from IMSE Master Instructors. IMSE OG Certification is for those who are ready to take their understanding and practice of the methodology to the next level!

IMSE COMPREHENSIVE ORTON-GILLINGHAM CERTIFICATION

This certification is ideal for educators working with students who are at a K-3 reading level, as well as those who wish to work towards an IMSE Specialist Certification (see below).

Step 1:
ORTON-GILLINGHAM COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING

K-3 Reading Level

This 30-hour training is a hands-on, personalized session that provides a complete
understanding of IMSE's Orton-Gillingham method and the skills necessary to apply it in
the classroom, small group, or one on one. This course focuses on phonological
awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. After participating in this
training, teachers will be able to assess, evaluate, and teach children how to read, write,
and spell proficiently.

Step 2:
Practicum

After completing our Comprehensive Course (30 hours), participants can apply for the
50-hour practicum. During the practicum, participants will develop lesson plans, be
observed, and have a one-on-one coach while using the IMSE OG methodology in their
classroom, small group or individual student. Participants will be required to submit
benchmarking and progress monitoring data, submit reports, complete assignments
and required readings, and take an exit exam upon completion of the practicum.

IMSE INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATION

This Certification is ideal for educators working with third, fourth and fifth grade students as well as older students who are below level in reading, spelling, or vocabulary. This is also appropriate for those who wish to work towards the IMSE Specialist Certification (see below).

Step 1:
ORTON-GILLINGHAM INTERMEDIATE TRAINING

3-5 Reading Level (or older student working far below reading level)

This 30 hour Intermediate training is a hands-on session that provides a complete
understanding of IMSE’s Orton-Gillingham method and the skills necessary to apply it in
the classroom, small group, or one on one. This course focuses on encoding/decoding,
higher level spelling rules, morphology, and vocabulary. After participating in this
training, teachers will be able to assess, evaluate, and teach older children how to read,
write, and spell proficiently.

IMSE ORTON-GILLINGHAM SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION

The IMSE Specialist Certification is comprised of completing both the IMSE Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Certification and the IMSE Intermediate Certification. Participants will improve their skills working with students in all areas of literacy. Participants are required to complete one practicum at a time.

Certification Application Periods

Once the maximum number of applications have been received, all other applicants will be put on a waitlist for the current application period only. Once all available practicum openings have been filled, no other applicants will be accepted. If a practicum opening becomes available, applicants on the waitlist will be contacted on a first-come-first-serve basis. If not accepted in the current application period, all applicants including those on the waitlist, must reapply with current and updated information during the next application period.

Our application periods are as follows:

-December 1st through January 15th

-April 1st through May 15th

-August 1st through September 30th
