Half-Pint Readers
|
by LuAnn Santillo
Based upon the principles of phonemic awareness and phonics instruction, the Half-Pint Readers introduce only a few sounds or new skills at a time while providing lots of opportunities for practice before adding more skills. Each book builds upon the skills of the previous books so children experience success and gain confidence right from the start. Half-Pint Readers are designed to improve fluency through controlled vocabulary throughout the series. Comprehension skills are also developed by a strong correlation between illustrations and text, interesting story plots and follow-up questions at the end of each book.
Half-Pint Readers are unique in that each set of six books centers on a different theme. 18 exciting themes open up a world of learning in science and social studies. Children love the Half-Pint characters and all of their funny adventures. They can hardly wait to read the next set.
The program meets all of the qualifications for No Child Left Behind and can be used as a Kindergarten and Beginning First-Grade reading program or supplement an existing program. They are perfect for remediation, adult literacy, English as a Second Language, learning support and for home-schooling.
